Sustentabilidad y modelamiento de fincas agrícolas en la cuenca media y baja del río Supe (Barranca - Lima)

Abstract

En la presente investigación, se efectuó la caracterización geoespacial, se evaluó la sustentabilidad, y se modeló fincas con cultivos prevalentes de los pequeños agricultores en la cuenca hidrográfica media y baja del río Supe. Se realizó en tres etapas, la primera fue descriptiva, la segunda evaluativa, y la tercera de tipificación y modelado.Los objetivos fueron: caracterizar y analizar el territorio, determinar cultivos prevalentes,Identificar zonas homogéneas, evaluar la sustentabilidad de fincas, tipificar a los Productores, modelar gráficamente los sistemas de finca, y proponer alternativas Tecnológicas para mejorar el desempeño de las fincas en la zona de estudio. La Caracterización geoespacial de la cuenca media y baja del río Supe, permitió identificar zonas homogéneas de producción. Se utilizó como herramientas el SIG y la teledetección. Se identificó los cultivos predominantes en el área estudiada: caña de azúcar, maracuyá,maíz duro amarillo, ají paprika, palto y maíz morado. Se determinó tres zonas homogéneas. Se identificó atributos socioeconómicos y técnico-productivos de fincas con cultivos prevalentes. A continuación se evaluó la sustentabilidad de éstas, utilizando el método “tipo multicriterio” propuesto por Sarandón y el “método agroecológico rápido para la evaluación de la sostenibilidad de cafetales” que utiliza criterios de calidad de suelo y salud del cultivo, propuesto por Altieri y Nicholls. El índice general de sustentabilidad (IS-G) es mayor a 2.0, a excepción de las fincas con cultivo de ají paprika cuyo índice general de sustentabilidad es 1.98, por lo que se concluyeque de las fincas evaluadas, solo las que tienen instalado el ají paprika no son sustentables.Se encontró tres tipos de productores según la actividad principal y el ingreso económico anual de la familia: tipo I, son los pequeños agricultores con cultivos perennes extensivos yde economía restringida; tipo II, pequeños agricultores con una actividad complementaria no agrícola y economía de autosubsidio; tipo III, medianos agricultores con cultivos intensivos y economía de capitalización.

A geospatial characterization, sustainability evaluation and modeling of small farmers farmshaving prevalent crops, located in the middle and low watershed of Superiver was carried outin this research. This was made in three steps. The first one was descriptive, the second onewas evaluative and the third one included typifying and modeling.The objectives were: to characterize and to analyze the territory, to determine theprevalent crops, to identify homogeneous zones, to evaluate the sustainability of farms,to typify farmers, to graphically model the farming systems and to propose technologicalalternatives to improve the performance of farms under study. The geospatialcharacterization of the middle and low watershed of Superiver allowed to identifyhomogeneous production zones. SIG and remote sensing were used as tools. Prevalentcrops identified in the area under study were: sugarcane, passion fruit, yellow corn,"paprika" sweet pepper, avocado and purple corn. Three homogeneous zones weredetermined. Socioeconomic and technical-productive attributes of farms havingprevalent crops were identified. After that, the sustainability of these farms wasevaluated by using the "multi criteria" method proposed by Sarandon and the "Fastagroecological method to evaluate the sustainability of coffee farmingsystems" methodproposed by Altieri and Nicholls, which uses soil quality and crop health criteria.The general index of sustainability (IS-G) is higher than 2.0, except for farms which grow"paprika sweet pepper whose general sustainability index is 1.98, therefore it is concludedthat of the farms evaluated, only those which grow "paprika" sweet pepper are notsustainable. Three types of producers were found according to their main activity and theannual economic income of the family: type I, are the small farmers with extensive perennialcrops and of restricted economy; type II, small farmers with complementary non-agriculturalactivity and self-subsidy economy; type III, medium farmers with intensive crops andcapitalization economy.
